Michael J. Adams passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, August 26, 2024 at the age of 79 after a battle with lung cancer. Mike was born on February 1, 1945, to Theodore and Lucille Adams in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Mike spent His early childhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota and his teen years in Roswell, Georgia. During his early years, he was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow in 1959. After graduating High School, he attended the University of Georgia for a year before joining the United States Air Force in 1965, as a radar repairman, where he served honorably for four years.
Mike would say that life really began in 1967, when he met and married Ms. Lena Collins Keep whom he would be married to for 56 years. Together they settled in Marietta, Georgia, where Mike worked for Southern Bell for 5 years and they started a family, raising two children: Jennifer Luann Adams, of Cypress, Texas, and Christian Michael Adams, of Cibolo, Texas.
It was at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Marietta, Georgia where his faith in Jesus Christ was nurtured and he was introduced to T.I.M.E. for Christ Ministries mission work in rural Mexico. It was during these early mission trips where he deepened his relationship with Jesus. His commitment to service was evident in his role as Scout Master of a local Boy Scout troop, where he organized monthly campouts and created memorable experiences for the youth.
Mike and Lena marked a new chapter together as they moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee where Mike attended Bible school at Precept International, and then continued his education at Chattanooga State Community College. His academic journey concluded at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelors of Science in Education.
Due to his involvement with T.I.M.E. for Christ Ministries, Mike moved the family out to their new home base, San Antonio, Tx. Here he began a teaching career at San Antonio Christian Schools, with eventual retirement from San Antonio ISD in 2006. His career was marked by his dedication to nurturing young minds and building relationships centered on Jesus Christ.
Retirement brought Mike joy through his woodworking hobby. He found solace in nightly games of Solitaire on his iMac and enjoyed listening to all genres of music. His sense of adventure often led he and Lena to travel the Great State of Texas looking to discover new BBQ spots and hidden treasures. Despite his declining health in August 2023, he continued to radiate his faith, witnessing to hospital staff and sharing puzzles he had handcrafted.
Mike’s legacy is one of faith, laughter, and love. His final days were spent reflecting on the promises of heaven and reaching out to those around him. He is survived by his beloved wife Lena, his daughter Jennifer Adams; son Christian Adams, his wife Diane, their children, Lena and Rowdy; sister, Mary Ramsey; brother, Mark Adams, and a multitude of friends and family who will forever cherish his memory.
In the words of Mike, “You have to know Jesus,” and he lived his life as a testament to this belief. He now rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord
Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:30 am. Family and friends are invited to a time of fellowship and remembrance at Rudy's "Country Store" and Barbecue in Leon Springs beginning at 1300.
