

Richard is survived by his life partner, Teresa Middleton, his daughters Gia Melissa Marciano and Cristina Marciano, his grandsons Milo Stubbington, Luke Mott, Sam Mott and Ecco Mitchell, and his great-granddaughter Karina Stubbington. He is also survived by his bonus family Christopher and Andrew Middleton, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by Claire ‘Middleton’ Barentsen.
Richard was proud of his Italian heritage and his extended Italian American family. His father, Eugene, who was born in Avelino, Italy and his mother Venera who was born in Catania Sicily, Italy both immigrated to the United States where they met, married and raised their two children. Richard was also predeceased by his sister Imogene ‘Marciano’ Abato.
After graduating from Classical High School in Providence, Richard studied at Brown University and later went on to graduate from Syracuse University. He also successfully completed the business Executive Program at Stanford University.
Having had a successful business career, Richard retired as a research executive at SRI International in Menlo Park, California after 25 years. He managed many large scale education projects and later served as vice president for the commercialization of SRI’s technology.
Richard had a full and fun life. He was a lover of all genres of music from Jazz to Opera. Having an adventurous spirit, Richard was not afraid of trying out a nude beach in Greece, bungee jumping in New Zealand, or sharing Ethiopian cuisine in an African refugee camp. He looked sharp in a tuxedo, especially when worn at Met galas and opera events. A dedicated baseball lover, Richard wore his San Francisco Giants gear with pride at the three World Series in San Francisco.
