Our dear mother, Virginia “Ginny” Therese Larson of Hanover, formally of Hingham, passed away on 8/5/23 with her family by her side. Ginny was 93 years old — she was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her, including up to her last days.
Ginny was born and raised in Brighton and was known for her quick wit and use of infinitely cute idioms, which always brought a smile to everyone she met. Ginny’s reminiscing about her childhood trips to the Cape gave rise to a new tradition which lasted many years with her two daughters — her much anticipated annual Mother’s Day weekend. She enjoyed finding a new B&B on the Cape and creating a new list of antique/thrift stores to visit. Ginny had a life long hobby of purchasing antiques. She acquired a deep love and knowledge of the same and loved to pass on her treasures to her children and grandchildren. Ginny was a talented seamstress – she created many special occasion outfits for her children and family throughout the years. Her creations were requested and proudly worn on holidays, school days, proms and for a memorable trip to Italy.
Ginny was an avid reader and enjoyed James Patterson novels. Ginny was also known as a conscientious hard worker – she had a 38 year career with New England Telephone and was president of the IBEW telephone workers union and a Project Manager. After retirement she worked and volunteered as a private Home Health Aide, and helping Wellspring and Meals on Wheels. Ginny loved her many pet animals and bird watching. She especially enjoyed relaxing and taking in the sights at Jane and Jack’s lake cottage in Plymouth. Ginny is predeceased by her husband John “Jungle Jack” Hilding Larson and sister Eleanor McElaney of New York. Ginny is survived by three children, Paul “Joe” Lombardo and his wife Nancy of Epping, NH, Claire St.Leger and her husband Alan of Hingham, MA, and Jane Kelly and her husband Jack of Hanover, MA, her brother William “Billy” of Mashpee, five grandchildren Samantha, Joey, Dillon, Michael and Sean, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Paul’s Church in Hingham on Saturday August 26 at 10AM. A private burial will be held at High Street Cemetery August 28th. The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Pat Roche Hospice Home on Turkey Hill for their care and compassion. Donations can be made in her memory to Stjude.org and the Pat Roche Hospice Home of Hingham.
