

Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Cassedy, 81, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away on June 7, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. The daughter of the late Kenneth T. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Hemenway, she grew up in Brighton, attending Our Lady of Presentation Academy. Mary went on to attend Emmanuel College and graduated from Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1965, before building a career in nursing that spanned many years. She concluded her professional life working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Welfare's Medicaid Fraud division. Mary called Hingham home for 53 years.
Beth was known for her quick humor and her identifiable laugh, which left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She had a love of travel and cherished the experiences and memories it brought her and her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 57 years, Jack Cassedy, and her sisters Susan Harrington and Linda Mistovich, both of New Hampshire.
Beth is survived by her daughter, Joanne "Jody" Flanagan and her husband Sean of Rockland, and her son, John Cassedy and his wife Jennifer of Boston. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David Courage, Cassedy Gwynn, John R. Cassedy, and Reagan Cassedy, and her brothers, David Hemenway and his wife Alice of Quincy, Massachusetts, and Kenneth Hemenway and his wife Tami of Anchorage, Alaska, and her beloved cat, Sam.
A private service will be held for the family. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and attention provided by the staff at Rose Court and Linden Ponds of Hingham, Massachusetts, and to Old Colony Hospice for their kindness and dedicated care during Beth's final days and hours.
