Lifelong Massachusetts resident James (Jim) Noble Clark passed away peacefully at his Hingham home on February 11, 2026. Born March 10,1931 in Salem, Massachusetts to Frederic and Madeline Clark. Jim graduated from Milton Academy ‘50 and Dartmouth College ‘54 where he excelled both scholastically and intramurally in hockey, football, and tennis.
Jim's favorite childhood memories were always focused on outdoor activities whether at home in Swampscott, on the family farm in Montpelier, Vermont, or at Camp O-AT-KA on the shores of Lake Sebago. Jim lived his life close to the ocean but was happiest in the mountains, hiking, skiing, and sharing memories with his friends.
Jim joined the family business, Clark & Friend, a menswear store in Salem, Massachusetts which he eventually took over as sole proprietor. Even in retirement, Jim stayed active in the business world as a trustee of the Salem Five Bank, serving for over three decades.
When his game of tennis started to slip he turned to play golf and spent many years perfecting his swing. Walking at first and reluctantly riding a cart as time progressed. Jim was a lifelong sports fan who enjoyed college sports along with the New England professional teams.
Jim leaves behind Marsha Slayton, his loving partner of 30 years, his son Bill, daughter-in-law Marti, sister Betsey, stepson Chip, numerous nephews and nieces, and Marsha’s whole family who lovingly embraced Jim as a part of their family.
