He was born on September 17, 1945, in Boston, where he grew up in a large family. He graduated from Holbrook High School and entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Although those were challenging years, he was proud of his service and remained proud to be a veteran.
He worked as an office manager in the trucking industry before retiring to enjoy a more relaxed life with no commute - as he often reminded people. He enjoyed rewatching classic westerns, sharing breakfast and conversation with his brothers at Stanney's in Holbrook, and watching the children in his family grow and reach life's milestones. He had an often sarcastic sense of humor and was a very generous person, willing to help a loved one in need.
Henry was part of a large and loving family that included brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Bethune (Lohnes), and is survived by his daughter, stepdaughter, and grandson.
The family would like to thank the Holbrook EMTs and the nurses and doctors at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for the care and compassion they showed Henry in his final days.
While he preferred not to have formal services, he wanted his loved ones to gather together to share memories and support one another. He was very proud of his time in the U.S. Army and his status as a veteran. In his honor, the family invites those who wish to do so to donate to a veterans charity of their choice.
He may not have realized it, but Henry truly made an impact on the lives he touched.
