Francis J Davey Jr of Norwood, MA, formerly of Needham, MA, passed away on October 26, 2026. Born February 6, 1947, Fran was the oldest of the three children of the late Francis Joseph Davey and Mildred (MacDonald) Davey. Raised in Jamaica Plain, MA, Fran graduated from Boston Trade High School where he began his interest in electricity. He was an Army veteran who spent time in both New Mexico and Germany. Fran first became an apprentice and then a journeyman electrician for IBEW, Local 103. In the union hall, he labored long and vocally to bring retirement age to 58 and to be sure unemployed brothers still qualified for health insurance coverage. At the most recent IBEW pin night, he received his 52 years of service pin.
Beloved husband of Yvonne (Bonnie) Davey of 53 years, Fran is survived by a large, loving family. In his immediate family he leaves behind his three sons, Christopher Joseph Davey of Los Angeles, CA, Timothy Francis Davey of Portland, OR and Matthew Vincent Davey, his devoted health care proxy, also of Norwood, MA. In Portland, OR, Fran also left behind his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Juergens as well as his loving granddaughter, Harper Bea Davey. Fran is mourned by his two siblings, Christine (Tina) Katapodis of Duxbury, MA as well as both Richard Allen Davey and his wife, Linda Davey of Randolph, MA. Fran is additionally mourned by both his sister-in-law, Jeanine Climo and her husband, George Climo, of DeLand, FL. Fran is also remembered by his brother-in-law, Floyd McManus of Worcester, MA (the widower of his sister-in-law, Joanne McManus) as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and close extended family members.
Fran’s legacy includes bringing the love of sports to his sons, particularly the Boston Bruins (Bobby Orr was his hero). His West Coast sons even remain passionately devoted to their Boston sports teams. Fran loved to bowl and to play bridge and cribbage. He especially enjoyed competing in bowling and cribbage with the beloved “Cuz” just like they always competed for being the favorite nephew of their many MacDonald aunties. His favorite travels with his wife, Bonnie, included road trips to Maine and vacations to Aruba. Everyone will fondly recall Fran’s unique sense of humor, his super-long “shortcuts” when driving anywhere, and his generosity of spirit shared with neighbors, friends and family including his dog, Gus. Fran will be missed and never forgotten by everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.
A mass celebrating Fran’s life will take place on Friday, November 6th at 9am at St. Susanna’s Church in Dedham, MA. Shortly thereafter, a reception will follow at the Village Club in Needham, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to whatever charity reminds you of Fran.
