Diane Claire Cabral of Yarmouth, formerly of Marstons Mills, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025 at the age of 82 after a long and fierce battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the devoted wife of Joseph C. Cabral. The daughter of the late Raymond and Gabrielle (LaForest) Champagne, she was born on December 27,1942 in New Bedford, MA. Diane graduated from Saint Anne’s Nursing School (Fall River, MA) in 1963. She went on to work as a Registered Nurse at Saint Anne’s Hospital before being approached and recruited by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to administer a clinic that provided STD and HIV care and treatment.
If Diane were to be defined by only one word, that word would be Love. She loved her husband, she loved her family, she loved her friends, she loved her patients. She loved life passionately: nothing brought her more joy than spending time in her gardens and caring for her roses, entertaining her friends and traveling. She was a kind and gentle soul. She dedicated her life to helping those in need, always putting others ahead of herself. Throughout her entire life, Diane held an enduring faith in God, which she shared with those that surrounded her.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Gabrielle Champagne, her brother Robert Champagne, her many aunts and uncles and her stepson Craig Cabral.
Diane is survived by her husband Joe, brothers: Paul Champagne (White House, TN), Carl Champagne (Greenville, TN) and sister Lisa Hulstrom (Middleboro, MA), numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.
Diane will be deeply missed but her memory will always live on through the love she shared with others and her light will continue to shine.
The family would like to thank Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation (Yarmouth) for the wonderful care they provided Diane during the last 6 months of her life. The family is forever touched by the remarkable expertise, compassion and unwavering commitment to Diane’s comfort and dignity offered by the incredible staff at Broad Reach Hospice. Words cannot express how forever grateful we are for the care and tireless advocacy Valerie Dubois provided Diane these past years and for being by her side in her final days. She received the best care possible thanks to all. The kindness, dedication, and support offered, in particular to Diane’s husband and friend Valerie, will never be forgotten.
