Dean was a devoted grandfather to Delilah Ocean, Isabella Luna, and Orlando James, who brought boundless joy to his life, as he would say often, they completed him the day they were born. He cherished every moment with them, celebrating their milestones as the most extraordinary achievements-from their first steps and words to their first days at school. Dean was their biggest supporter, always present when needed, and their lives were his greatest blessings.
A man of adventure and service, Dean traveled the world and developed a deep love for South America and the Spanish culture. He lived in Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic, where he served in the Peace Corps with his children. His life was defined by giving back, caring for others and sharing his wisdom. Dean's guidance was always thoughtful, and his advice was a gift to anyone who sought it.
Dean leaves behind his daughter, Erica Putnam, who lovingly cared for him in his final days. Dean was not only an incredible father but also a steadfast presence in Erica's life and her children's lives. From the day they were born, he embraced his role as a grandfather, tirelessly supporting and nurturing his family. Whether cooking meals, walking the dog, or entertaining three babies, a kitten and a pet bunny simultaneously. Dean's love and dedication knew no bounds.
HIs grandchildren were his pride and joy. He lived to see Orlando row in the Head of the Charles for Bates College, Delilah explore the jungles of Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador and Isabella an All Star Academic athlete created beautiful paintings that adorned his bedroom walls. Each of these moments filled his life with purpose and happiness.
Dean also leaves his brother, Richard Putnam, sister-in-law, Marilyn Putnam, and many dear friends, including Denis and Helen Coleman, who visited often and brought comfort and companionship.
Dean's ashes will be spread across South AMerica, Europe, and the ocean-places he loved and cherished.
Dean lived a remarkable life filled with adventure, service and unconditional love for his family. He will be missed dearly and forever loved.
"I love you, Dean. I will miss you so very much"
With love,
Your daughter, Erica Putnam
