Bonnie dee Klane passed away peacefully at home under the care of Old Colony Hospice on October 2, 2026. She was born April 7, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, daughter of Lewis Knight and Gertrude (Taub) Knight. Bonnie spent her childhood in Bellport, New York, and carried that sense of community and belonging throughout her life. She studied at Boston University and later graduated from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.
On June 5, 1960, Bonnie married the love of her life, Laurence (Larry) Klane. After their marriage, they lived in Peabody, Massachusetts, and in 1971, settled in Sharon, where Bonnie remained for the rest of her life. Bonnie and Larry were truly best friends, always sharing their time, their interests, and their deep love for one another. Together, they enjoyed sailing on Lake Massapoag, and they also spent memorable seasons on the ocean off Jamestown and Newport, Rhode Island, with occasional trips to Cape Cod. They valued “date nights”, frequented local restaurants, and loved the arts, traveling into Boston for Broadway shows and musicals. For major journeys, they especially enjoyed cruises, where they explored new places and made friends from around the world.
Bonnie devoted her career to education, with a focus on special education. She earned her Master’s degree at Lesley University in Cambridge and later returned to teach graduate courses. Her teaching spanned both private and public-school systems, including Learning Prep School and the Newton Public Schools. Bonnie was known as a pioneer in her field, working tirelessly to create new curricula and to expand learning opportunities. Even after retirement, she continued to give back by volunteering in her hometown Sharon High School, including substitute teaching and advisory roles.
She had a remarkable sense of style and an eye for beauty. Bonnie loved nice clothes, beautiful jewelry, and bright colors, anything that made her feel fabulous. Decorating, fashion, and creating a welcoming, vibrant home were all part of who she was. She also had a gift for making people feel loved and celebrated. Many memories, especially those involving holidays, birthdays, and sleepovers, were enriched by her warmth and thoughtfulness. One of her cherished family traditions was going to the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate loved ones; a simple outing that became meaningful over time.
In her later years, Bonnie especially cherished the daily companionship of her loyal Yorkshire terrier, Sofie, whose presence brought so much love and laughter to their home.
Bonnie is survived by her sons Scott (Karen) Klane and Andy (Joanne) Klane, and by her grandchildren: Josh (Jenny) Gentz, Branden (Claudia) Gentz, Brett (Margaret) Gentz, Jacob Klane, Rachael Klane, and Gabrielle (Hamilton) Vahrenkamp.
Bonnie will be remembered for her dedication, her distinctive style, her pioneering spirit in education, and above all for the deep and lasting love she shared with her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to:
