

She was born on June 26, 1948 at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton, IA to Roger C. and Leona M. (Montanya) Barrett. She went to Newton High School. Susan was a jack of all trades, working at various locations over the years including: the Stone Container in Des Moines for nine years, Fleur Heights Care Center as a CNA, a daycare provider in her home for fifteen years (Sunshine Daycare) in Des Moines, as well as at Walmart in Indianola, the Good Samaritan Care Center as a CNA for 10 years, HyVee in Indianola and Menards in Des Moines.
Susan was united in marriage to Kenneth E McCoy on august 14, 2004. Susan loved working and enjoyed making people happy. Most of all she loved her family with all her heart, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her husband Kenneth, especially their alone time. She loved Chinese food and seafood the most. Susan was a great cook and loved to bake as well. She had amazing sewing skills and loved to embroidery for holidays and dressing up.
You could also count on homemade cookies and candies for special occasions and holidays. Susan never missed sending a card for each holiday. All and all Susan was a caring, loving woman. Gardening was one of her favorite things to do in life. She had a green thumb and was proud of it. We will cherish all the days that we got to spend with her and forever be grateful for the gift from God that he gave us the last moments of life to spend with our mother.
Susan is survived by her husband, Kenneth McCoy; sons: Terry (Billie) Onstank of Norwalk, IA, Tracy (Elisha) Adreon of Des Moines; daughter: Tammy (John) Seymour of Martensdale, IA; step-sons: Jeff McCoy, Robin (Karen) McCoy and step-daughters: Kathleen (Thomas) Gaffey and Debra (Dan) O’Neill; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; her siblings: Michael (Darla) Barrett Dennis (Tip) Barrett, Jeff (Anne) Dooley and brother-in-law, Jim Curtis.
She is preceded in death by her parents Roger Barrett and Leona Barrett, grandparents, Bryan w. Barrett and Stela C. Barrett; sisters, Sandra Barrett and Linda Curtis; and stepson, Randy McCoy.
A Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held from 2PM to 6PM, Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the Luana Savings Bank (9321 Market PL Dr, Norwalk, Iowa 50211).
Cremation arrangements were handled by Neptune Cremation Service.
