Robert was born in Rockford, Illinois on December 12, 1953, to Eugene and Pearl Ahrens. Bob graduated from Auburn High School in Rockford. He proudly served his country in the US Marines from 1973 to 1976. During his working career, Bob served in management roles in manufacturing companies. Bob also served as a facilities supervisor at the Fairfield Glade Resort Community in Tennessee before retiring.
Bob and Roseann were married in July 1999, and enjoyed over twenty-five years of marriage. They lived in Rockford, Illinois and Crossville, Tennessee, moving to Grimes in June 2024 to be near family. Bob and Roseann loved to travel, including trips to Alaska, Hilton Head, South Carolina, Florida, and many other destinations around the country. They were very socially active and enjoyed many great friendships in Rockford and Crossville.
Bob was proud of his two sons, Robert II, and Ronald Ahrens, and their families and became an encouraging and supportive stepfather to Darrick and Raymond Young and their families. Grandfather and Great-Grandfather were his favorite titles.
Bob was a collector and shooter of guns and enjoyed many leadership roles in local gun clubs, even reloading his own ammo. He was also a skilled handyman who could build or fix just about anything. He enjoyed using those skills to help his friends and family. Bob was a leader, finding himself in leadership roles without seeking them. He was a provider for his family, and a man who you could always count on. Above all, Bob was a follower of Jesus and was ready to go home to heaven to be with Him.
