Marlene Huettl

Marlene was born September 1, 1940 in Elkhart, Indiana to Guy & Juanita Losee. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wilbur Losee.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Bob Huettl, her son Brett Huettl (Kathy) and daughter Amy Collins (Mark); her three treasured grandchildren, Dylan, Ella and Isaac Huettl and her brother-in-law John Huettl.

Marlene graduated from Elkhart High School and went on to attend Indiana University. She developed a keen interest in the field of eye care and what was then the emerging specialty of hard contact lens. This eventually took her to Chicago and a job with Wesley-Jessen Contact Lens Company. It was also there in the early 60’s where she met Bob Huettl, a young CPA assigned to the Wesley-Jessen account. This chance meeting evolved into a wonderful marriage that marked 60 years on May 21, 2026.

Marlene’s faith was a foundation of her life. Upon moving to Des Moines in 1983, she and Bob promptly became members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Marlene was active with the Worship and Music Committee and many special projects. She was a key player in the renovation of the courtyard, adding her unique touch to the design and structure of the columns. She also found the Stone Cross which is a prominent feature of the courtyard and the metal nativity set which is enjoyed by many every Christmas season. She served on Session, various other Committees and was always willing to help out where needed.

Marlene connected with Des Moines Eye Care, where she worked with the practice for a number of years. She used her experience knowledge and expertise of eye care and glasses to volunteer at Deerfield Village and Calvin manor assisting residents with matters relating to their glasses. A monthly volunteer service that was much appreciated by the residents.

Those who knew Marlene enjoyed her energetic warm personality that welcomed all to be her friend. There were afternoons filled with playing Mahjong and Bunco. She was also active in her PEO Chapter HH and relished the friendship, fellowship and philanthropic efforts supported by the PEO.

Marlene’s love for her family and constant support was a blessing to all her loved ones. She was kind, generous and compassionate. From throwing beautiful dinner parties to backyard get togethers she had an eye for detail, a talent for hosting and a contagious laugh.

She will be remembered as a great Mother, Grandmother, Wife and Friend to many. Her loved ones take comfort in knowing she has found eternal peace.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Details regarding date and time will be shared when arrangements have been finalized.
