Charles "Chuck" Cushman of Ankeny Iowa passed away on the 13th of March, 2025 of a short battle with renal failure at age 83. Chuck was in the last graduating class in 1958 from Dexter High School in Dexter Iowa. He married his High School sweetheart, Dorothy Thompson in 1961 and they shared 64 wonderful years together. Chuck had the best sense of humor and shared it every chance he could. He never met a stranger and met every day with optimism. Chuck dedicated his career to sales and during his lifetime sold everything from office equipment, steel buildings, health insurance and annuities. He wouldn't miss a chance to talk about the fact that he held a pilot's licence since he was 24 and loved to tell his flying stories. Chuck took many fishing trips with his buddies to Canada, in his younger years kept a shotgun in the car during his travels so he could bring home a pheasant or two, and did his fair share of snow skiing and golfing. But Chuck will be mostly known for making people smile and laugh. He was a professional jokester in his later years.
Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Arlene and Carroll Cushman and his brother Kenneth Cushman. Surviving family members are his wife Dorothy (Dottie) Cushman, sons Timothy of Bethany Life in Story City, Matthew ( & Melinda) of Bedford Texas, and Daughter Julie (& Dave) Youngblade of Dallas Center Iowa, Grandchildren Bailey (& Cole) Lempke, Benjamin (& Grace) Youngblade and great-granddaughter Marlowe Youngblade all of Wisconsin. Our family will miss him dearly.
Per his wishes, his ashes will be buried at the eastside Dexter Cemetery in Dexter Iowa.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter Iowa on March 29th at 11 a.m., burial to follow.
The family will also be holding a visitation open house at the family church, Ankeny Free, in Ankeny Iowa on April 1st, 4:30-6:30 p.m.
The family would like to thank Immanuel Pathways, Mercy One, and Kavanaugh House of WDM for their care and kindness. Chuck would appreciate any donations go to Immanuel Pathways of Central Iowa who took such great care of him in his last few years.
