Joann Lois Richardson, age 96 of Winchester, California passed away peacefully on Thursday January 2, 2025 in San Gabriel, California. Born in Los Angeles, she lived the first half of her life in the Temple City area and the second half in Winchester, California.
As a child, Joann enjoyed racing down to the train tracks with her friend to watch the steam trains run by. She also enjoyed painting, drawing and photography.
She graduated with the first senior class of Mark Keppel High School in Alhambra.
Married to Ralph Brugger in 1953, Joann remained in Temple City raising four children. During these years she and Ralph, a private pilot, would occasionally fly to Mexico and return with local folk art for her collections. She also led Boy and Girl Scout troops, Camp Fire Girls, organized family camping trips, collected antiques and saved stray animals.
After marrying David Richardson in 1978, she became “Farmer Gramma” when they moved to Winchester in the early 1980s. David worked in the motion picture industry as a wrangler; traveling with him to movie sets and TV stages, Joann was able to indulge her love of all things western. Here in the log house they had built, Joann added to her collections and enjoyed the companionship of her many pets while continuing to care for stray and feral cats. She also entertained neighbors and delighted grandchildren and great grandchildren when they visited the ranch.
Joann is preceded in death by her parents Joseph John Colling and Anna Catherine (Wiederhold) Colling; her first husband Ralph Edwin Brugger; second husband David B. Richardson and daughter Lynda Jo Brugger.
She is survived by her children Mark, Frederick and Carol as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Pets in Need, Redwood CA; Performing Animal Welfare Society, Galt CA; the Wildlife Conservation Network, San Francisco, CA
