Dixie Burke entered the world in Pendleton, Oregon, on December 18, 1940. She was the second of four siblings in a close-knit family that appreciated music and was blessed with talent in playing the guitar and singing folk songs. Early in life, she married Curt Buell, creating a home in The Dalles, Oregon, where they had two children, Terry and Michelle. Although Dixie and Curt eventually went their separate ways, they remained lifelong friends.
Later, when Dixie moved to Seattle, she found love again with Dave Burke, in a memorable Hawaiian ceremony and a month-long honeymoon. Dixie's dedication to family was profound, embracing her role as a grandmother with joy, caring for her grandchildren, Kendall, Delaney, Nafiseh, and Amir, and proudly witnessing their milestones.
An LPN by profession, Dixie worked in various nursing settings, including the maternity ward, where she played a crucial role in delivering babies. An avid Seahawks fan and UW Huskies supporter, Dixie enjoyed football throughout her life. Her love for exploring different cultures led her to travel extensively, visiting countries like Egypt, Japan, and China.
Dixie Burke was a truly special person, leaving behind a legacy of love, sacrifice, and warmth. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
