Born on August 10, 1937, in Douglas, Michigan, to Ruth Rose (Uecker) and John Albert Johnson. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and after graduation from high school served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda, Michigan, as a Crash Rescue Firefighter.
Once he was discharged in 1960, he became a police officer in Winnetka, Illinois. Ron married Barbara Joan Little on July 7, 1962 and their union lasted over 61 years.
Ron’s career took he and his family to Saginaw, Michigan, where he worked at Tri-City Airport in both fire and police roles. In 1974, they moved to Swanton, Ohio, where he became Operations Manager at Toledo Express Airport, in charge of both fire and police departments.
After almost 20 years, he retired, or so he thought. He continued to serve, this time working at Swanton Local Schools and then at a nursing home in Swanton. After his second retirement, he and Barbara moved to Florida until their health began to fail which prompted a subsequent move back to Ohio.
Ron is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Dan (Carole) Johnson of Springboro, OH and Doug (Beth) Johnson of Toledo, OH, daughter, Pam Smithers of Fowlersville, MI, six grandchildren, Mark (Nora), Courtney, Kevin, Cydney, Bill and Megan, all of whom he loved deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, many aunts and uncles, cousins and pets (two dogs and four cats).
Private services were held.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/cincinnati-oh-cremation for the Johnson family.
