John S. Ritchie, born November 26, 1958, passed away on June 7, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Christine Ritchie and their daughters Julie (Ryan) Hawley of Calhoun, KY and Megan (Jason) Deweese of Owensboro, KY. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Shelby and Jack Hawley and Jillian Deweese. John was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Ritchie, and his grandson, Gavin Deweese.
John took great pride providing for his family and being a leader in the workplace. He began his insurance career in January of 1982 at Nationwide Insurance as a Claims Adjuster and retired in April of 2023 as the Assistant Vice President of Complex Property Claims at The Cincinnati Insurance Companies. He was described by many co-workers as the definition of “work hard, play hard” and made many friends along the way.
He loved big, never met a stranger, and was always ready for a good time. Some of his favorite things included Ohio State football, Bourbon, and boating, but music was his passion. He learned to play the drums in the 1980s and later, played in several bands. Over the last 7 years, John and Chris enjoyed spending time at Arrowhead Campground with their kids and grandkids while making friends (which are now more like family) and sitting by the pool.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests donations be sent to John’s favorite charity:
