Joan E. McDonald, age 86, passed away on February 4, 2025 at home under hospice care after a brief illness. Joan was born to Walter and Lillian (DeCelles) Granger on March 28, 1938 in Northampton, Massachusetts.
She graduated from Easthampton High School in 1955. She served in the Navy from 1957-1960. She lived in Naples, Italy with her husband for 2 years while he remained in the Navy. They returned to the states settling in Rochester, NY to raise their family. She was an RN who enjoyed working in home health in both Rochester, NY and Tampa, FL. In retirement she kept busy with genealogy research documenting her family and nearly lost cemeteries in the Tampa area for Find-A-Grave. She loved to play BINGO and Mah Jongg tile games.
She is survived by her children, Cindy Uher (John) of Apollo Beach, FL, Bonnie Warner (Jerry) of Laura, OH, Stuart (Marcey) of Chicago, Kerri McDonald of Brooklyn, NY, and Scott (Mary) of Rochester, NY. Grandchildren Jacob (Emily) Warner, Sam Warner and Ben Uher, Great Grandchildren Jarrett and Logan. Sisters Janet O’Dea (Richard) and Jean Willard. Nephew Brian (Stacey) Willard and niece Kristen (Lance) Strzegowski. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Don Willard, and ex-husband Richard McDonald.
Memorial contributions to Day City Hospice, 7601 Paragon Rd Suite 201, Dayton, OH 45459 or the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary of Indian Shores, FL. A private memorial is planned for later this year.
