Salvatore “Sal” Palumbo, 84, of Danville, California, formerly of Highland Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026. Born on March 25, 1941, he was the beloved son of Joseph and Marie Palumbo.
Sal had many passions—restoring cars and bicycles, tackling endless DIY projects, and serving as the unofficial “Mayor” of his neighborhood, but nothing brought him more joy than being “Papa” to his three granddaughters. Despite the miles between them, he never missed a chance to be present in their lives. He traveled for school events big and small, answered every phone call, and happily FaceTimed even when it meant upgrading his data plan. His neighbors knew him as the first to lend a hand, the one who always had time for a conversation, the man who remembered everyone’s families; and on Halloween, he was a favorite stop for the best treats on the block.
Sal was the loving father of Kathleen Pullella (Leo), Marina Simoneaux (Paul), and Joey Palumbo; and the proud Papa of Victoria Reed (Alex), Alexandra Pullella, and Isabelle Simoneaux. He was the devoted son of the late Joseph and Marie Palumbo; the cherished brother of Rico and Florence, both deceased; and was preceded in death by his beloved partner of 25 years, Toni Musante, and former spouse Rosalie Palumbo.
For the last three years of his life, Sal resided at the Alamo Care Home in Alamo, California, where he was cared for with deep compassion by Gabriella, Rjhay, and Peter. He was further supported by the dedicated team at Vitas Hospice, whose spiritual care providers, nurses, and assistants ensured his final years were marked by dignity and grace. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Services will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Neptune Society of Northern California. Donations in Sal’s memory may be made to his alma mater, Benedictine High School, 2900 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Cleveland, Ohio 44104.
