Gloria Price Yruel

Born in Redding, California, Gloria was the daughter of Ethelyn and Jackson Price. She grew up alongside her two brothers, Richard and Don, and graduated from Shasta High School in 1958. Gloria pursued higher education at Brigham Young University, where she nurtured her lifelong love of learning.

After college, she moved to the Bay Area and began working at the stationery counter at Macy’s in San Francisco’s Union Square. It was there that she met Edward Yruel, a recent Navy veteran and student at the University of San Francisco, who worked in the furniture department. The two married in 1967 on the grounds of the Oakland temple.

Soon after, Gloria and Edward set off on a grand adventure, traveling to Europe by ship and settling in Madrid, Spain, where they lived on an American military base and taught at an elementary school. In their free time, they explored Western Europe in a Volkswagen bus, building memories that would last a lifetime.

Returning to California to start a family, the couple lived briefly in Napa before settling in Orinda, where Edward began teaching in Pittsburg. There, they raised their four children—Natasha, Sergio, Joya, and Sonya.

Gloria focused on being a mom for her family during their early years and then returned to teaching in the late 1980’s —a calling that brought her immense joy. She taught kindergarten at Del Rey Elementary School in Orinda for 28 years.

Even after formally retiring from teaching in 2015, Gloria remained a fixture at Del Rey, volunteering in the kindergarten classrooms until 2019.

In 2017, Gloria’s husband Edward passed away.

In her late golden years, Gloria enjoyed being active with the church of Latter Day Saints, book clubs, a singing group called the Singing Messengers, and spending time with her friends and loved ones.

Gloria will be remembered for her warmth and unwavering kindness.

It was Gloria’s wish to be cremated and her remains to be buried next to her husband at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
