

On September 19, 2025 Walter C. Edwards, 92, fought the good fight for 6 months, he finished the race, he kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7. He was preceded in death by his parents, O. C. Edwards and Vera Graves along with his wife of 60 years, Mildred Edwards. He served on the 82nd Airborne (parachute) division of the Army. At the age of 42 he retired disabled, as an engineer conductor of the Norfolk Railroad.
Walter was a loving, caring, giving, genuine, humble, smart, strong, athletic, hardworking, good-hearted Christian. Raised on a farm, he rose before dawn to do chores and walked 1 to 2 miles to catch a school bus. He received a scholarship for basketball, but turned it down to help his parents. A loving man, who shared a life with Mildred Edwards, got involved with her sorority to assist her and them with the fundraising. Family man whom took vacations with the family, along with 2 cruises with his wife. Actively involved with his children, helped them with school and coached a basketball team his son was on. Gave the best advise to his children, loved his grandchildren, enjoyed the country, outdoors, taking care of the land, hunting, fishing, etc. Extremely active, a man's man. An honorable man. He remarried Brenda, for a loving 2 years, and enjoyed visiting her family and extended family in Florida.
While visiting in Florida, he enjoyed the view at the condo and being involved with the grandchildren.
He was a Baptist that became a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church along with the family. Served as a Deacon for several years and was a member of the 21st Century Knight. Christian man actively involved with church.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Brenda Edwards; son, Walter "Wade" Edwards and his children, Robert and Ryan; daughter, Sylvia Edwards; step-daughter, Valerie Maxaner (Joe) and her children, Andrew Kello (Cieara), Melissa Webb, CJ Webb (Brooke and Jonah) and Tyler Webb. Great grandchildren, Tristan, Brayden, Ty, Eli and Jonah.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of his charitable efforts, please send donations to St. Jude.
