To My Brother,

It’s been one year since you’ve been gone and I still don’t have words except that I know you’re shining bright where you are now as you always have. I cried tears every time when writing this the past few months because I know it’ll be a while before I see you again.

But I can’t wait for that moment and I can’t wait for you to show me and the family around, I know you’ll have the most awesome setup.

Happy Heavenly Birthday my sweet boy. You should be here to celebrate a milestone birthday, the big 30. We will celebrate you here and know that you are still with us. You knew she was sick and we held out as long as we could but she was ready and she was ready to come be with you. GMA & GPA cat Max passed away that same night, hopefully he is there with you too.

I had the opportunity to work with Tyler at Dhall he was always so happy and would always say hi to me when we would run into each other at work. He would always start up a conversation with me and it would always make my day because I don’t normally talk to a lot of people at work . He always had such a friendly face and even when he was going through something he would always smile and be positive.

We are heartbroken beyond words and holding your family close in our hearts.

So many memories of you come flooding back — full of joy, laughter, and that fearless spirit we all loved so much. I’ll always remember our dinners at Captain George’s seafood buffet, your plate piled high with favorites, and the fun of riding surrey bikes along the beach with the wind in our faces. You brought a special energy to every tradition — celebrating First Night in Wilmington, Christmas dinners at Rigelleto’s, and meals at PF Chang’s and Golden Corral that turned into moments we’ll never forget.

You were always up for adventure — swimming in your grandparents’ backyard pool, fishing and riding the Rudy Rocket, or diving into the waves at the military beach. Whether we were bowling on base or just spending time together, you made everything more fun.

I’ll never forget the Virginia Beach Zombie Scavenger Hunt, you had us racing through the streets, laughing the whole time. And working together to answer the  escape room challenges, your smile made those experiences unforgettable.

We loved watching you play soccer — focused, competitive, and smiling — and we were so proud when you graduated high school, even catching the livestream while on a bus to Pompeii. That pride only grew as you served your country with honor and graduated from JMU with determination and grace.

One of our favorite stories is when you visited us in Newark and our dogs somehow herded yours back when they ran off — you couldn’t stop laughing. That laugh still echoes in our hearts.

You were growing into such a remarkable young man, with so much promise and love to give. We miss you deeply and wish we had more time to see all the things you would have become.

Tyler...I loved hanging out with you and your brother whenever we headed to Virginia Beach! Beach trips.  Restaurants.  Just hanging on at your parents house. A forever memory I have is when we were at the seafood buffet restaurant. I ordered a lemonade.  Somehow it ended up as a bet between the two of you and me that I wouldn't drink the lemonade with salt and pepper in it (maybe sugar too, it was definitely peppery), it is a fun silly memory of being together. Love you, cousin, rest in peace.

Tyler was one of those people you clicked with instantly. He had a laid-back, magnetic energy—always cracking jokes, always making people feel at ease. He never tried to be the center of attention, but somehow everything just felt better when he was around.

We got our first apartment together in the fall of 2017 as we prepped for JMU. Vante and I needed roommates, and Tyler jumped in right away. So did Alex. That apartment became the backdrop for so many memories—late-night talks, lazy Sundays, friends always in and out. It was chaotic at times, but it felt like home.

One of my favorite memories was ESPN GameDay that first semester. Tyler’s brother came down, and I remember seeing Tyler up on the roof, waving a JMU flag with the biggest smile. He was so proud to be a Duke, especially since his brother Josh had gone there too.

I left JMU in spring 2018 to start my own business—something I’d been dreaming of since I was 15—and Tyler was always in my corner. Encouraging me. Believing in me. That’s who he was.

I remember the long night talks. FIFA and COD matches. Study sessions. Sheetz runs. The speakers he brought from home—the same ones his brother used at tailgates. I could fill pages with stories from our eight years of friendship. Now, there’s this space where he should be.

I still catch myself thinking about what he’d say or how he’d react. He made a huge impact—not because he tried to, but because that’s just who he was. The kind of person who made your life better just by being in it.

I miss him every day. But I carry him with me—in those memories, in how I show up for others, and in how I try to live a little more fully.

Because that’s what Tyler always did.

I miss you, brother.

Tyler, I am so deeply saddened by your loss as is everyone who knew you. You were the fun, adventurous, friendliest, and funniest person. I have so many fond memories of you at JMU. I remember the first day we met in college ~ COB 202. We were placed into a group together and worked on a presentation for half the semester that you ended up missing at 8 am and the professor made me present alone. From there, we became instant friends because you wouldn’t stop apologizing and making fun of the thought of me going up there solo. We laughed until tears were rolling down our faces picturing the scene. Only you would make the situation sound so ridiculous and hilarious that nobody could be mad at you. You’d be the person I’d call at JMU at 2 am or come over to your place just to talk and debrief about the night and eat Cookout. Every time we called and FaceTimed we’d end up cracking up. I miss our banter. We had the type of friendship that only few experience. You were the brother that I never had. I am so thankful to have known you and your electric spirit. You made light of most situations and always helped to put a smile on other’s faces. You put others before you. Your kindness and huge heart impacted those you knew you. May you be at peace. You are missed dearly. Until we meet again❤️

I’ve been putting this off, not because I don’t have anything to say, but because every time I think of you, I get pulled back into the full weight of our years together. You’re buried so deep in my memories that nostalgia and you feel like the same thing. You were there for every sleepover, every inside joke, every version of me as I grew up.

We put off so much in this life. Catching up. Reunion weekends. We say “soon” until the years disappear like smoke. And I was still waiting to see you again. Still waiting to laugh the way only we could. Still waiting, like this was just some long delay.

I think our real beginning was in elementary school, playing soccer at P.E. You’d kick the ball as far as you could just to see if I’d chase it. And I always did, because I wanted a friend. For the lifetime that followed, no matter how far out of bounds we went, we always came back to each other. 

We learned what boredom was together. Garage doors half-open, eating snacks, playing FIFA for hours. The chairs changed: beanbags, exercise balls, computer chairs, but the vibe never did. Sometimes I’d sneak over late at night just to keep hanging out, and you’d come out the side door with a freezer pop, like clockwork.

I remember when we used to ride our bikes through the neighborhood like we were explorers charting unknown territory. We knew every shortcut, every broken sidewalk. Those summer days felt endless, like the world would never change.

We were the kind of friends who told each other everything. Because it’s so rare to have someone in this life whom you can tell literally everything. We talked every week, without fail.

Every single time you called me you’d say “I love you bro, I miss you!”

Tyler, you were my best friend. My first real one. I miss you, man. Always will.

Our first year at JMU was a movie, easily one of my most cherished and fondest memories. Tyler, Nate, and I lived in Southview together just us three, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys to grow up with. We bonded like brothers instantly like we’ve known each other before JMU, and relied on one another. Tyler had a big heart, took initiative, and was a very happy go lucky guy. He would leave a glass of water on my nightstand at the end of a great night out. Even if I didn’t drink it the thought is what counted and I love him for that. He would always come pick me up after class if I had asked for a ride home and we’d blast music, talk about our day, and the new people we met at school. I never felt homesick because I was home and Tyler had become apart of my family.

 Words cannot describe my feelings and it pains me to write and reminisce on the times we spent together. I wanted to see how we would grow together, invite each other to our weddings, and remember the good times at a homecoming football game. Thank you for every laugh, lesson, and love. We miss you brother… Roll Dukes 💜

Tyler, you will always be a colleague and a close friend, I will always cherish and hold all the memories of the questions and the jokes we had with maintenance issues and how to solve them. I will hold the deep conversations we had about life and  all the other small things. I’m glad to say I knew you and I will always hold our memories in my heart. 

To your family: Thank you for allowing all of us that you son has been able to touch by his presence, his smile, his jokes, his passion at work and his love….this all truly comes back to the ones who have raised him to be the person he was, where his memory will be cherished and remembered by so many people’s lives that Tyler has touched. 


Tyler, once again…..Thank You for your Service!!!

I don’t even know where to start.. Tyler worked for me as my assistant manager at Freshens with JMU dinning. For the past two and a half years we became very close. I was hard on him with a lot of things, because I could truly see the potential he had and wanted to him to shine bright among others. His employees loved him, I can’t express that enough. That being said, we became good friends that could talk about anything together. He helped me thru a very difficult time I was going thru last year and that bond continued to keep growing. I recently relocated to North Carolina, but we talked on the phone for about an hour a few days before I heard the news of his passing. I’m very thankful I was able to share that last conversation with him. You had a big heart man, may you rest in peace brotha.

I meet tyler four years ago  we worked together at Dhall dinning at JMU (Aramark) everyday I would always say hey Taylor and he would say hey Tara.. Taylor was always nice and he had a motorcycle he loved to drive to work .. doing the summer we get off and when I came back in August 2024 I heard he was dating my boss I seen Tyler and 
Congratulate  him on the dating he said thanks 😊

Tyler, you were and always will be my little brother ❤️. 
When I first met you around 20 years ago, I considered you as the brother of one of my closest friends. We only ever hung out when I was already hanging out with Josh. But as we got older, we established our own bond/friendship and I considered you to be one of my closest friends as well. 
There are countless amazing memories to reminisce about when I think about our time together and I find myself nostalgic for those times and wishing to experience them once more. Shoot, I basically partially grew up at your house. All the late nights we had, joking and laughing (making the late night ramen also of course), to our beach days, to all the nights we spent playing video games together from afar when I was living in NYC - all of them were equally as special to me and I’ll always cherish them.
I’m sorry we didn’t get the chance to speak again. I’ll forever hold you and those memories in my heart and I’ll love you forever.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Tyler, and he was a great leader. He was so smart and dependable; if anyone had a problem, whether work-related or personal, they'd go to him. One thing I admired about him was his ability to truly listen. I once had a debate with him over some silly political topic, and he genuinely listened to my reasoning and thoughts without any judgment. Everyone at Freshens loved talking with him, laughing with him, and just being around him. I hope he knew how much we all cared for him. He will be missed.

I am one of the managers Tyler worked beside at DHall while he was a student, and when he became student manager. Tyler turned everything hard into something simple, and easier to handle - just by the way he would not only talk his coworkers through a task but also be right there doing the work with them. He radiated confidence, and a willingness to plant both feet into any project he was given. He brightened peoples day, and he kept a smile on his face no matter what was going on outside of work. It was an honor to have gotten to know your son these last four years. Truly.

I had the pleasure of working/ managing Tyler during his time with Aramark, and I will say that his personality was amazing and his smile could be seen a mile away. I am truly sorry for your loss, he will be missed heavily here at JMU.

To Tyler’s family, I’m so sorry for your loss. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. It was heartbreaking seeing he passed. I’m grateful for all the memories I shared with him over the years. He was a great friend and will be deeply missed.

You and Josh were like brothers to me all through high school and though we hadn’t talked in a while, we rooted eachother on from a distance. You are gone too soon. You were always a light when the times got dark.

I will never forget your  big heart. A little girls crush never bothered you. Driving her in the pink Barbie corvette because she couldn’t reach the pet toes.
