A former New York firefighter, Steve spent his early career running toward danger in service to others. Seeking new horizons and following his passion, he eventually moved to Virginia Beach, where he traded the fire station for the open sea and became a charter boat captain. Nothing gave Steve greater joy than life on the water, feeling the sea breeze, and sharing that love with everyone who stepped aboard his boat.
Known for his unmistakable style, Steve could almost always be found cruising around town on his motorcycle, proudly sporting his favorite Big Time t-shirt. He was a master mechanic with a rare talent for fixing anything with an engine—and a heart big enough to make sure he was always the first to step in whenever someone needed a hand. Off the water and out of the garage, Steve loved testing his luck and enjoying good company during regular poker games with his close friends.
He is survived by former spouse, Laura Hollenzer; his loving children: daughters Cheryl Hollenzer, Crissie (husband-Dylan) Donahue, Jennifer Hollenzer, and his son, Stephen M. (Wife-Lindsay) Hollenzer; his cherished six grandchildren; his brothers, Scott(Wife-Judy) Christman and Phillip (wife-Suzie) Hollenzer; his cousin Pete (wife-Jamie)Nixon; his three beloved nieces; and a community of dear friends.
