Sandra “Sandy” Hepner Tucker, left to be with the angels at 70 years old, on March 5, 2022, after a seven-year battle with cancer. Sandy was born in Lawrenceville, VA on May 8, 1951 to Rachel and Michael Hepner, before moving to Ahoskie, NC. After graduating from high school, she received her computer science degree at Catawba Valley Technical College and went on to earn her real estate license in Virginia Beach, VA. While working for the Trammel Crow Company in Virginia Beach, she quickly achieved the title of employee of the year, and, even more importantly, met the love of her life, Kevin Tucker.
In 1985, Sandy and her husband, Kevin, moved to Princeton, NJ, where Sandy began raising her two beautiful daughters while volunteering with the city. Within a year, the city of Princeton named Sandy the volunteer of the year. After 5 years in Princeton, Sandy and Kevin moved back to Virginia to be by the beach.
Sandy loved the water and began teaching children’s swimming lessons, water aerobics, water ai chi, and performing watsu therapy. She received her B.S. in Exercise Science with a minor in Nutrition at Old Dominion University. She continued working in the water throughout her life, adding personal trainer, Zumba instructor, reiki master, and eventually finding her true passion as a yoga instructor.
Sandy had an amazing ability to bring people together both in her philanthropic endeavors and personal life. This was evident in her work volunteering as the Social Events Committee Chair for Cape Henry Shores and fundraising for various organizations, including the Cox Crew Club and the YMCA, as well as the numerous family gatherings she organized.
Sandy will be remembered most for her ability to live every day to the fullest and spread joy everywhere she went. She loved hosting parties, live music, dancing, boating, and dolphin runs. Throughout her life, Sandy took every opportunity to travel with family and friends. In 2019, Sandy and Kevin realized their dream of completing the Great Loop on their trawler, Koastal Karma.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Kevin Paul Tucker; their daughters Jamie Tucker and Kelly Tucker, Kelly’s boyfriend Nick Jones, and her corgi grand-puppy, Beans; her sisters Jean (Alfie) Krakow and Judy (John) Hughson and their families.
In addition to her immediate family, Sandy is survived by numerous friends and extended family, with whom she has always been very close.
There will be a Celebration of Life, on her birthday and Mother’s Day, May 8th at 1pm at her home in Virginia Beach.
