Roger Franklin Robinson Jr., age 72, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He was born in Siler City, NC on July 17, 1951 to the late Roger F. Robinson, Sr. and Rachael D. Robinson.
Roger was born in Siler City, NC and moved around with his family, finally settling in Virginia Beach, where he graduated from Kempsville High School in 1971. He was active in sports, marching band and Boys Brigade. He attended Tidewater Community College for two years. He was married to Pamela M. Prentiss and has two children, Timothy Shawn and Marie.
Roger married Dana A. Sexton in 2001 and had one stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Hultzman, who passed away in September, 2022. Together they served the Lord at The Bridge Christian Fellowship in Chesapeake, making many mission trips to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to others abroad, and also at home. Roger served as a Deacon for many years, and also as the head of the Usher teams. He was a part of various projects and activities in which the church engaged.
A very gentle and humble man with a big smile and a big bear hug, Roger was loved by so many. He loved helping family and friends whenever he could, often without being asked, because he just loved people.
An avid Washington Redskins/Commanders fan, he also loved watching the March Madness Basketball Tournaments, playing golf, playing basketball on his church’s men’s team, and playing corn hole. But his primary love was yard work and gardening. He loved fresh vegetables and took great pride in growing, sharing and eating the fruits of his labors.
Roger worked selling power equipment for Montgomery Ward for twelve years, and for Land and Coates for thirty years. As a people person, he loved serving his customers, many of them year after year.
He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed, the gentle giant to all.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dana A. Roederick Robinson; children, Timothy Shawn Robinson and Marie R. Chakan (Rodney); siblings, Dianna L. Dickens (Tom), Michael R. Robinson (Debbie), Kelly D. Boothe-Robinson (Lisa); step-mother, Ruby Robinson; and many grandchildren, one great-grandchild and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by step-daughter, Jennifer L. Hultzman.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at The Bridge Christian Fellowship at 1116 Hillwell Road Chesapeake, VA 23322 on Tuesday, November 14 at 2pm. Reception will follow.
Roger requested that no one wear black, because this is a celebration of life. Please dress colorfully. Also, please do not wear shorts or ball caps in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Bridge Christian Fellowship Missions Fund, or to Hope House Children’s Home in Chaing Mai, Thailand through the church.
