Bob was born on April 7, 1941, in Queens, New York. In 1968, he moved to Florida to work on the Apollo program with Grumman, a role he remained incredibly proud of throughout his life. He dedicated 49 years to Grumman/Northrop Grumman and treasured the opportunity to attend the 50-year Apollo reunion a few years ago.
Bob worked as an electrical technician on the F-14 and F-16 aircraft programs and truly loved what he did. He especially enjoyed traveling internationally to places such as Italy, Spain, France and Japan for his work. Long before video calls became common, Bob loved being able to Skype with his family while overseas, proudly staying connected from afar.
In his younger years, Bob loved running and participating in races, including the Disney Marathon, the Virginia Beach Mud Run, and many local 5Ks over the years. He especially loved when Mount Trashmore was built, giving him a favorite place to walk, run around the lake, climb the hill, and later tackle the stairs. Bob was happiest outdoors, whether hiking, walking or working in the heat. He also enjoyed walking on the boardwalk at the beach, bowling, and telling dad-jokes.
Bob also loved word games, including Wordle, Scrabble, and Words with Friends. He approached every game with strategy and playful competitiveness. His favorite motto was “No mercy!” — always said with a smile and laugh.
Bob never knew a stranger. He greeted everyone he met with a smile and loved learning how to say “hello” or “good morning” in different languages. He would often try to guess a person’s native language and, if he guessed wrong, would happily ask and then greet them correctly. His kindness and effort always brought smiles to those around him.
Above all else, Bob adored his family, and they adored him in return. He treasured every visit and greeted loved ones with his big, beautiful smile and one of his famous bear hugs. He gave the best hugs.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Cathy; his children, Marjy (Warren), Robert (Dawn), Chris (Janine), Matt, and Kim (Mike); 11 grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 13 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, FL (Mainstreet), 140 Magnolia Avenue, Merritt Island, FL 32922.
