Pat was known for her unfailing optimism, kindness, generosity, and keen sense of humor. She loved reading, particularly science fiction, though each new installment of the Stephanie Plum series was a welcome addition to the library. She was also known for the crocheted baby blankets that she lovingly made for friends and family.
She valued spending time with family and friends, making numerous trips to California, Arizona, Nevada, and Virginia to spend time with loved ones over the years. She spent numerous summers with her granddaughter as she was growing up and enjoyed vacationing on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Pat was born on June 23, 1944, in North Platte, NE at St. Mary's Hospital, the eldest of five
siblings (Michael, Walter, Roberta and Christine) and lived in North Platte until 1961, when the entire family moved to Manhattan Beach, CA.
Pat married Vern Johns in August 1963 and they moved to numerous duty stations across the country over the next 18 years. After being widowed, she attended Commonwealth College, leading to a career as an Administrative Assistant with Wheat, First Securities in Norfolk, VA, and later with Merrill Lynch in Tysons Corner, VA, where she worked until her retirement in the mid-1990s. In retirement, she volunteered for Helpline, a local organization in Port Orchard, WA.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Wyatt (Bill); granddaughter, Victoria Wyatt; brother, Michael Riley (Pat); sister, Roberta Riley McGhee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Max H. Riley and Marjorie C. Riley (Barraclough); husband, Cmdr. Vernon M. Johns; brother, Walter K. Riley; sister, Christine Riley Cummins; and longtime partner, Cmdr. Thomas David (Dave) Johnston.
