Our beloved mother passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 19, 2025, fittingly, the last day of Winter. After prolonged illnesses and innumerable bravely fought comeback chapters, Leonie Ann Glynn—also known as Lee, and affectionately as Chickaboom Grandma—is now at rest, in Heaven, healed, and embraced by God and welcomed by those who have gone before her.
Lee lived her life as a faith-driven, compassionate caregiver. In recent years, her body endured many cycles—ambulance to ER, to hospital, to rehab, and home again...then back again to the Ambulance. Though these challenges marked her final chapter, we know Lee would want to be remembered for the beautiful moments, not the painful ones. We are exceedingly grateful for the many wise, caring, skilled, generous and loving people who walked beside her on this journey.

Her Story
Born on January 25, 1942 Leonie (known as “Sissy”) was the fourth child and only daughter of Leonie Louise (Warta) and Richard Magee Connor of Orange, NJ. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1963 and earned the title “RN.” This would be a source of great pride and purpose for her entire life.
Mom spent days working as a nurse and occasionally a weekend on "The Jersey Shore." One of the highlights of earlier days was a white-glove tour of Europe with her nursing school friend Ingrid Kobberger. On St. Patrick’s Day 1966 she met her match, Mike Glynn, a Notre Dame graduate, former U.S. Marine Corps helicopter pilot and high school teacher, pursuing his Masters at Seton Hall University. He proposed in short order, and they were married on June 25, 1966, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church. Just over a year later, son Terry was born. For the next 10 years, Lee was frequently “expecting,” eventually giving birth to six children. Balancing motherhood with service to others, she worked as a nurse at Ashbrook Nursing Home, Children’s Specialized Hospital, and later as a visiting nurse. With so many family members, there was a lot to celebrate, from Birthday parties, to First Holy Communions to Graduations, Lee Glynn was constantly planning for the next celebration with family and close friends.
In 1989, Lee and Mike Glynn relocated to Great Bridge in Chesapeake, Virginia, with their three youngest children, to be close to family. In Chesapeake Lee made wonderful friends, expanded her garden, adopted larger animals (with hoofs) and continued her nursing work supporting mothers and infants.

A Life Full of Love
Lee adored being a wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. She also cherished:
• Her Faith in God
• Her Love for & special connection to her Grandchildren
• A rich and eclectic taste in music (from Beethoven to the Beatles)
• Flowers and every kind of animal
• Movies, especially The Sound of Music
• Medicine and the keeping up with advancements in the field.
• And above all, people—especially her treasured friends and neighbors
Though she considered herself shy, Lee never met a stranger. Her warmth and curiosity allowed her to befriend people anywhere and everywhere. She filled her home with music, often singing traditional or popular tunes with her own creative twist on the lyrics. She loved to laugh—so long as it was “ladylike humor”—and she had a talent for lifting others up.
Lee rooted for the underdog. Whether it was a neglected plant on the clearance rack at Home Depot, a shelter animal (from hound to horse), or a person going through hard times—she offered hope, warmth, and compassion. She was also an artist with money: even during lean times, there was always a warm meal on the table and room for one more at the dinner bell.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and many wise, sweet and funny expressions that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Well done, good and faithful servant. We will love you forever.
