John T. "Jack" Snell

December 17, 1934 – March 2, 2026
Obituary of John T. "Jack" Snell

John T. “Jack” Snell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and longtime attorney, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, in Chesapeake, VA, following complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was 91.

Born on December 17, 1934, in Plattsburgh, New York, Jack was the son of John and Gertrude Snell. He grew up in the Adirondack region and graduated from Port Henry High School before continuing on to the University of Notre Dame for both his undergraduate and law degrees. During his years at Notre Dame, he met Dolores “Butch” Coletti, who would become his wife and lifelong partner for 65 years. Their marriage was the foundation of his life.

After completing law school, Jack returned to Plattsburgh to begin a legal career that spanned more than four decades. He served his community in numerous capacities, including 22 years as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting criminal cases, and as Town Attorney for the Towns of Schuyler Falls and Ellenburg. Jack’s career was marked by integrity, a deep respect for the law, and a steady commitment to public service.

Jack and Butch built their family in the North Country, raising three children: John Stephen (Belinda) and their sons Stephen (Katelyn) and Ryan, all of Chesapeake, VA; Brian (Diann) of Plattsburgh, NY, and their son Matthew of Palm Coast, FL; Kathryn, and her daughters Paris Slade and Sydney Slade, of Australia. Jack is also survived by four great grandchildren: Delaney, Wyatt, Whitley, and Rowan.

In retirement, Jack and Butch relocated to Davenport, FL, where they enjoyed years of golf, travel, and enduring friendships. In later years, they moved closer to family as Jack faced the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Through every chapter of his long life, Jack remained devoted to his family and to the profession to which he dedicated his career.

He will be remembered by everyone for his commitment to family, the law, and the community he served for many decades.

A private family service will be held in Plattsburgh at a later date.

The family invites those wishing to honor Jack’s memory to consider supporting organizations devoted to Alzheimer’s research and care.
