J. Richard Sparks

J. Richard Sparks (Sparky), born in 1948, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, after a stroke. Richard’s parents, Rogers and Martha Sparks, preceded him in death. Also, preceding him were his two sisters, Linda and Donna Sparks and his great grandson, Kane Podish. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Donna Blackburn Sparks, and her son, Clint Garrison and Clint’s daughter Lily. Also surviving are his son John Sparks and John’s children Triston Sparks and Madison Podish, and his sister Beverly Mann and her daughter, Linda Stebritz.

Richard graduated from Princess Anne High School in 1968. He entered the Army and after discharge went to work for the Federal Government in ship and submarine building/repair retiring after 32 years. He umpired softball throughout the Tidewater Area for many years. Richard was currently employed part-time at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.

Richard was a loyal Oakland Raiders Fan and was a member of the Virginia Beach Las Vegas Raiders Club. On the road many people have seen his gray truck that is decked out with Raiders flags, stickers and accessories. Richard also enjoyed travel, food, gardening and music.
