

George Leroy Blocher passed away at home on Sunday morning, January 4th, 2026.He was born in Silver Lake, IN on August 14th, 1944. He lived in Indiana until 1968 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Virginia Beach, VA in 1971 and served his country until he retired in 1997. He continued his hard work and enjoyed woodworking, handyman work and building shadow boxes for other fellow veterans. He was always there to lend a helping hand to a friend or a neighbor without fail. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He will be laid to rest at a later date with his beloved wife, Joan Mary Blocher who passed in April, 2025, in Arlington National Cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Blocher, Eunice Blocher; sister, Naomi Roberts.
He is survived by his children, William Dean Blocher, Janlyn Sue Crawford; his sisters, Ruth Wrightsman, Lois Miller, Gladys Taylor; grandchildren, Lake William Blocher, Aaliyana Tso Blackbear Crawford, Brooks Blackbear Crawford; ex-wife, Prunie Dean Blocher.
He was a member of:
Willis V. Fentress Lodge No. 296; Aragona Moose Lodge 1198; Moose Legion #199; Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 392; Virginia Beach Elks Lodge #2268; International Order of Old Bastards.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 392, 2408 Bowland Pkwy, Virginia Beach, VA 23454, on Thursday, January 22nd from 3PM to 6PM.
