He was born in Allentown, Pa., on June 17, 1944 son of the late Elsie and Harry Bahner. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maryann Bahner, and son, Michael Bahner. Fred married the love of his life, Maryann, in 1962, shortly after enlisting in the Air Force, where he dedicated 23 years of his life to the military, working on the mechanics of aircraft around the world. The Air Force allowed him to travel from Texas, Iceland, Florida, Thailand, Arizona, California, Germany, and Virginia. No matter where he or the family were, his fun-loving, happy-go-lucky personality and adventurous spirit always led to lifelong memories and side-splitting laughter. His love for his family was unfaltering, and his dedication to providing them with a life full of options only grew as he transitioned into working at NASA and later became a truck driver. After retiring from the Air Force, Fred and Maryann moved back to their home state of Pa., where they then resided for more than 30 years, and they remained there happily for 57 years, until Maryann’s passing in 2019.
He was well-known for making friends at every pitstop life gave him, whether a restaurant, a truck stop, or an RV park; he could get strangers laughing and smiling within minutes. His kind heart showed through in his teasing and light-hearted jokes in a way that could make any room feel lighter.
In later life, he enjoyed spending his days tinkering with projects in the garage, spending time with family and friends, or watching old John Wayne movies.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or gathering, but we hope that friends and family will spend a few moments of their time reminiscing about his time in your life.
