Emory Leroy Downs

Emory L Downs, aged 82, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 after a courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. Throughout his 5 month cancer journey, Emory fought with courage, determination and unwavering hope.

Born and raised in Ferndale Maryland the youngest of 3 brothers. He worked as a facilities and safety manager with Gould and Lockheed Martin, after relocating to Norfolk Virginia.

Emory was a devoted friend, sibling and uncle. He loved spending time on the water, whether fishing on the bay or on a cruise ship exploring the world. He was always up for an adventure, and loved to collect t-shirts and baseball hats from everywhere he went. Emory was a dedicated member of the Ocean View Democratic and Social Club.

Emory is survived by sister-in-law Doris Downs of Millersville Maryland, niece Dawn Lee of Damascus Maryland, nephew Charles Downs of Midlothian Virginia and many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Margaret Downs, and brothers Charles and William Downs.
