Edward Varley Kennelly

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Varley Kennelly, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Edward passed while surrounded by his family including his wife of 62 years, Carol Comparato Kennelly.

Edward was proud to have earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Fordham University and a Master of Physics from Columbia University but took the most pride in his prospering family. He is survived by his wife Carol Comparato Kennelly, his brother John Kennelly and his wife Blanche, sister Shelia O’Connell his daughter Sarah Kennelly Johnson her husband Michael and children Ryan, Caroline, Alexander, Ryan’s wife Meghan and son Charles, daughter Ruth Kennelly Apotheker, her husband Erik and children Ellen and Judith, and son Timothy Edward Kennelly., his wife Christine and children Edward and David, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward and Carol relocated to Virginia Beach in 2022 upon retirement from his business in medical physics where he spent over 55 years practicing in Connecticut and upstate New York.

Edward was known for his generosity, moral integrity, and was a faithful member of Galilee Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. Edward was guided by his Christian faith, especially the teachings of love and forgiveness, which he lived out daily. He touched the lives of many through his kindness and willingness to help those in need.

In lieu of cards and flowers, donations can be made in Edward’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
