She is survived by her nephew, Michael Notholt; her nieces, Anne Marie Seibel, Stephanie Seibel Peasley, and Lauren Seibel Burton; and their families. During the last several years of her life, Edith was cared for by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Werner and Marianne Seibel, and Erwin and Monique Seibel.
Edith was born on October 14, 1943, in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1952 with her parents and sister. She had been a resident of the Richmond area since 1967 and devoted her professional life to the students of Chesterfield County Public Schools.
She began her career as a classroom teacher at A. M. Davis Elementary School before becoming Assistant Principal at Bensley Elementary School. She later served as Principal of Bensley Elementary and then Principal of Watkins Elementary School. In recognition of her leadership and dedication, the Edith Seibel Health Clinic was established when she left Bensley Elementary. The clinic provided vital healthcare services to students and the surrounding community directly on the school campus.
Dr. Seibel was widely respected by her colleagues as an exceptional educational administrator and advocate for student health and well-being. Alongside her husband, she played an active role in supporting educational initiatives and community partnerships throughout the Huguenot and Chesterfield County communities.
Dr. Seibel's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the care team at Reminiscence at Sunrise at Bon Air, especially Jackie Gray, who became a devoted friend during Edith's nine years there. They also wish to thank the nurses and aides of Bridge Hospice in Richmond and Virginia Beach for their compassionate care, as well as Heather Withrow and her staff at Magnolia Manor in Virginia Beach, who provided loving, peaceful care during Edith's final days.
Private services will be held.
