David Paul O'Bannon

Born November 17, 1960, in Moberly, Missouri, Dave was raised in Alta and Storm Lake, Iowa. In 1981, he married his beloved wife, Rhonda Gude Huseman, with whom he shared 44 years of love and devotion.

In 1983, Dave proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished career that spanned more than two decades. He was stationed in Virginia until 2005 when he began his final tour in New Mexico, retiring honorably in 2007. Following his military service, Dave continued his dedication to the Navy, serving as an Assessment Director on carriers in Norfolk, VA, until his official retirement in November of 2023.

Dave was known for his strength, loyalty, and humor, but above all, for his love of family. In September 2024, he received a disheartening health diagnosis. Despite his struggles, he remained faithful and ultimately surrendered himself to the Lord on August 17, 2025. God rest his soul.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Rhonda; his children Aaron Huseman (Sarah), Amanda O’Bannon, Brice O’Bannon, Brittney Rekrut (Jim), and Miki Iwamoto; and his cherished grandchildren: Ezekiel O’Bannon, Lilin Skelton, Noah Huseman, Ava Huseman, Juniper Rekrut, Augustine Rekrut, Suzuka Iwamoto, Reiji Iwamoto, and Ema Iwamoto.

Dave is also survived by his siblings Norman O’Bannon (Kathy), Lesa Netland (Mark), Jeff O’Bannon (Marjean), Russell O’Bannon, and Donald Gude. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Marilyn O’Bannon; his brother, Thomas O’Bannon; and his in-laws, Donald and Clara Gude.

A memorial service with rendering of honors will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Dave’s memory to the Virginia Beach SPCA (VBASPCA), honoring his love for animals.
