David Gene Lewis

David Gene Lewis, 74, of Norfolk, VA, formerly of Warsaw, NC, passed away on May 18, 2026. David lived a life shaped by simple joys and steady devotion to the people and places he loved. He found peace in long walks, gardening, days at the beach, and the familiar comfort of country music. A loyal Washington Redskins fan, he rarely missed a game and cheered with unwavering spirit.

David shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Ms. Kitty, whose companionship brought him daily happiness.

He is survived by his daughters, Angela Strickland and her husband Forrest; Christina Herrera and her husband Jesse; brothers Jerry Lewis and Larry Ridgeley; sisters Joyce Toler and Jeanette Jordan; six grandchildren, Paul Aaron, Caleb Strickland and Maegan, Carson and Avery Herrera; five great‑grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Parker Ridgeley; father, Herbert Lewis; step‑mother, Eva Lewis; son, Robert Phelps; brothers Carl Lewis, Harold Lewis, and Herbert Parker Lewis; and his cherished aunts, Betty White and Virginia Robinson.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 5 at 2:00 PM at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
