Dallas Lee England II passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2026, at the age of 78. A longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dallas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was known for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and willingness to help anyone who needed a hand.
Dallas was born on April 28, 1948 in Beckley, West Virginia, and grew up in Crab Orchard, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara (aka Bobbie); his son, Craig, and daughter-in-law, Lei; his daughter, Kelli; his grandchildren, Abby, Cooper, and Kai; his siblings Frances Gilkerson, Clyde England, Jane Ann Calvert, and Patty Shumate; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret Richmond and Dallas England, and his sister, Jeanne Osborne.
Dallas loved the outdoors and spent many happy days camping, fishing, and hunting. He especially enjoyed time in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia, a place he returned to throughout his life. He was also a talented mechanic, engineer, and craftsman who could repair just about anything. Family and friends often relied on him for advice, help with a project, or a practical solution to a problem.
Dallas dedicated much of his life to serving his country. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1973, including time stationed along the Korean Demilitarized Zone. He also spent nearly four decades in federal service, working as a Production Superintendent at the Naval Aviation Depot in Norfolk and later with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command. He retired in 2005.
Retirement did not slow him down. He continued to serve his community through 24 years of volunteer work with Chartway Credit Union, including nine years on its Board of Directors.
More than any title or accomplishment, Dallas will be remembered as a family man. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, helping others, and sharing stories around a campfire. His family will miss his wisdom, dependability, and quiet sense of humor.
A military honors service will be scheduled for a later date at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia. We will update this post soon with those details and all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations dedicated to preserving America's public lands and forests, in honor of Dallas's lifelong love of the outdoors.
