Cynthia Denise-Jones Sampson

September 23, 1958 – May 22, 2026
Obituary of Cynthia Denise-Jones Sampson

With deep love and heavy hearts, we share the passing of Cynthia Jones Sampson who entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 22, 2026, at the age of 67. She passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach.

Born on September 23, 1958, in Philadelphia, PA, Cynthia, lived a life defined by faith, hard work, compassion and unwavering love for her family. She was a devoted Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. A longtime member of Wave Church, she found great joy in serving on the church greeting team, where her warm smile and welcoming spirit helped countless people feel at home. She never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a listening ear, offer encouragement, or share a kind word.

Cynthia dedicated over 40 years of her professional life to Merrill Lynch, where she built not only a respected career but also lifelong relationships with her many colleagues. Her colleagues knew her as someone who showed up to be fully reliable, gracious, and possessed leadership qualities. Her dedication left a lasting impression on both colleagues and clients.

Outside of work, Cynthia found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved crocheting gifts for those she cared about, spending quiet hours reading a good book, starting conversations with genuine interests in whomever she was talking to, and preparing meals that brought family together around the table. She found happiness in creating a warm and welcoming home and cherished the moments spent with those she loved.

Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She poured herself into the lives of her children, supporting their interests, celebrating their accomplishments, and standing beside them through every season of their life. She continued to show the same love as a grandmother to Harrison Walsh and Micah Walsh whose milestones brought her immense joy.

Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Chrystine Walsh and her husband, Braden Walsh of Virginia Beach, VA; their children, Harrison Walsh and Micah Walsh; her son, Michael Sampson Jr., of Virginia Beach, VA; her sister, Marion Ogletree and her husband Bernard Ogletree of Purcellville, VA; extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie Leecost Jones and father, Junious Melvin Jones.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we find comfort in knowing that her faith has become sight and that she is at peace in the presence of the Lord she faithfully served. Cynthia will be remembered by her gentle spirit, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, faith, and devotion that will continue to live on in the lives of her family, friends, church community, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
