It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine McCoy, Norfolk VA., whose presence will be deeply missed. Cate departed this life on December 16th 2024. Cate was a loving mother, wife, sister, Grandmother, and Daughter. She passed away in her 65th year of life from complications associated with her 6-year ALS battle. Cathy spent her final days and moments at her home in Norfolk Virginia enjoying beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay with her dog Bella on her lap and her husband Tom at her side.
Cathy is predeceased by her son James and her sister Joyce. She will join them and her loving Father Al and Mother Mary in heaven. She is survived by her husband Tom Weikel, sisters Toni and Stephanie, her brother Alex, stepmother Norma, her four step children, Thomas, Steven, Andrew, Rebecca, and Grandchildren, Atlas, Asher, and Jett as well as her many friends.
Cathy grew up in Wallkill NY, she put herself through Marist college, earning a Bachelors degree in computer science, graduating Cum Laude. Her love of learning drove her to continue and earn a Masters degree in Information Systems. Her list of professional certifications is long and includes Project Management Professional, Professional Business Analyst and Certified Business Analyst Professional. Putting all that knowledge to work, Cathy served ten years in the IRS Appeals Division in charge of modernizing the Division reporting systems, the far reaching affects of which will continue to benefit many. A lead instructor for Learning Tree International she spent a great deal of time teaching advanced business management courses all over the world.
Cathy became an accomplished, successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. She was also an experienced pilot, a published author, an avid bicyclist, a SCUBA Diver, tennis player, kayaker, teacher, volunteer, and an enthusiastic skier. She truly grabbed life by the horns. As founder and CEO of Communi-cate Inc., her company will also survive her and remain a legacy to her drive, determination, and success!
Always striving to live life to the fullest, she embraced world travel in both her personal and professional life. Adding spice to her travel, she successfully navigated volcanoes in Italy, an avalanche in Austria, a Tsunami in Thailand, a tornado in Oklahoma, and flooding in New Hampshire. People traveling with her did so with the anticipation of an adventure and prepared accordingly.
Cathy will be missed by her friends and family, and she hoped everyone could gather for a memorial service and celebration of her life at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, 9629 Norfolk Ave., Norfolk, Va. 23503 on the 21st of December at 2pm.
