

It is with deep love and profound sorrow that we celebrate the life of Carl Antonio Mendiz, who passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Carl was a devoted family man whose presence brought incredible warmth, comfort and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born on November 22, 1976, in Kingston, Jamaica, the family relocated to Queens, New York. There, he attended and graduated from Springfield Gardens High School, building the strong foundation for a life marked by determination and purpose. Driven by a desire to succeed, Carl pursued higher education at the New York Institute of Technology, earning his degree in 1999.
A man of great character, Carl proudly served his country in the United States Navy for three years as a Gas Turbine Electrician. His time in the service exemplified his inherent honor, discipline, and commitment to something greater than himself. Following his military service, Carl built a strong, respectable career. He worked for years at Liebherr USA before ultimately retiring from Jo-Kell, where he was widely known by colleagues for his dedication, reliability, and unparalleled work ethic.
In August 2009, Carl met the love of his life, his wife, Chenay Cuffee-Mendiz. Together, they shared a beautiful, meaningful bond deeply rooted in love, partnership, and unwavering support. Carl was a fiercely dedicated husband and father. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Chenay; his cherished handsome son, Cai Mendiz; his loving and devoted mother, Merl Wright; his father, Donald Mendiz; two dear brothers; Devon Graham and Howard Gordon (Kamisha). He is also lovingly remembered by his cousin, Darby Russell, who shared a brotherly bond with him. He leaves behind two precious nieces, four wonderful nephews, extended family, countless friends, caring in-laws; Robert and Cecile Cuffee, all of whom will miss him deeply.
Carl had a deep, enduring love for his home country of Jamaica. He found immense peace spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature. A man of many passions, he enjoyed cooking, listening to music, bike riding, and traveling. Above all else, Carl treasured the time spent with his family and friends, creating a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and light.
Carl will always be remembered as a loving family man who embraced life fully, valued his relationships above everything, and found extraordinary joy in the simple pleasures of life. His beautiful legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
