A native of Liverpool England, Barbara grew up sharing the tiny home on 7 Hollywood Road with her Mom, Dad and sisters, Dorothy and Aileen. Barbara’s early years were filled with challenges, from living through the bombings of World War II, to food rationing of the 40’s and 50’s, and the many illnesses she contracted as a child before vaccines were readily available. Always an indomitable spirit, she overcame these adversities to complete her education and join the Liverpool Harriers running club, traveling around the region by bus and bicycle competing in the hurdles. While working in the local matchbox factory, she met her future husband, Bob Fielding, an airman in the U.S. Air Force. She and Bob had four children and spent time all around the world, to include California, Okinawa, New Mexico, Florida, and Germany. Everywhere she moved, her first stop was the local library, creating the family tradition of Sunday morning trips to fill up on enough reading material to get through the week. Settling in Atwater, CA, Mom followed her love of reading into a career as a school librarian. As empty nesters, Bob and Barbara spent time in California’s central coast before settling in the Virginia City Highlands in Nevada. They both loved the beautiful sunsets, dark skies, and sense of freedom associated with living in the high desert.
Barbara will always be remembered for her giving spirit and the joy she took from caring for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and animals, to include her beloved golden retriever, Sophie. She is survived by her children Randy (Rebecca) Fielding, Elaine (Toby) Young, Rick (Carol) Fielding, and Leanne Fielding; her grandchildren Nathan (Lindze) Fielding, Justin (Cynthia) Young, Lesley (Richard) Lutz, Kathryn Aaby, Lauren Aaby, and Braden Aaby, and her great grandchildren Aerianna Young, Kiley Lutz, Katelyn Lutz, Audrey Lutz, Alexander Fielding, and Piper Fielding.
A private remembrance will be held in the Virginia City Highlands later this summer.
