Peggy was born on June 12th, 1922 in Lloydminster Saskatchewan, Canada, to William and Gladys Taylor.
As an infant, she immigrated to the Bay Area of California. She joined the Cadet Nursing Program, graduating from Providence College of Nursing in 1945, as a Registered Nurse.
In October of 1945, she married Homer A. “Tony” Dahms and they settled in Montebello, California, raising four children. She was active in several organizations: PTA, Girl Scouts, Montebello Methodist Church, Montebello Woman’s Club, Soroptimist and PEO.
Peggy kept confidences of others and advanced in leadership skills, retiring as Director of Nurses of Pico Rivera Community Hospital, after many years of service.
After the death of her beloved Tony, she married her second husband, Andrew Matala and relocated to Hayward, California, where they enjoyed several years of travel, involvement in their church and other activities.
Mom had a very generous heart and instilled the importance of helping others and volunteering in the community. She was a very strong and funny lady offering unconditional love throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bob; beloved “Sis”, LaVerne Taylor; her infant son, Jimmy; beloved husband, Tony; her second husband, “Andy”; and granddaughter, Lauren.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Judi Bushey and Janice (Dale) Lindstrom; sons, Tim (Wendy) Dahms and Thomas Dahms; stepdaughters, Andria Matala, Marjean (Jim) Ritari, Joanne Matala and Helene Villarreal; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Our family would like express our deepest gratitude to Mom’s loving caregivers; Eleanor, Martha, Toni, Mila and Barb and to her team from Casa de Luz Hospice. The love and compassion they showed was immeasurable.
“Toodaloo” is remembered best by her grandchildren as she rarely said goodbye.
Private services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Neptune Society of Tucson, Arizona and Risher Mortuary in Montebello, California.
