He was the beloved husband of 38 years to Gail (Gaspar) Fernandes.
Lou was born in Fall River, MA to the Late Louis Fernandes Jr. and Isabel (Pacheco) Fernandes on October 9, 1953. He had also lived in Westport, MA.
Lou cherished his family and his dedication to them was unending. He is survived by his children Scott Fernandes (Molly Decker) of Colorado, Marc Fernandes (Aimee Ruddell) of Colorado, and Jessica Fernandes of Rhode Island; grandchildren, Kyle Fernandes and Isabella Marsden of Rhode Island, and Jacob Fernandes of Colorado; and siblings Michael Fernandes of Rhode Island, Susan Boulay of Arizona, David Fernandes of Massachusetts, Jamie Fernandes of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth, MA (Class of 1972).
Lou was known for his work ethic, which inspired others. He worked as a construction worker, mechanic, and a retail store manager. He also worked for and operated a sanitation business that he co-owned.
He was an avid sportsman and fan of all Boston sports teams. He was a member of the Pine Valley Golf Club for 14 years and played competitive softball for more than 25 years.
Lou will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him as "Papa Lou". He and Gail were known to extend their caring and open their home to many people in the community and always threw a good party.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life to honor Lou’s memory at a later date.
