Larry Olson Crowley

Larry Olson Crowley passed away at home on January 28, 2017. He is survived by his wife, of fifty-eight years, Diane Nita (Auld) Crowley; children, Dana Elda Dietz, Larry Auld Crowley, Gregory Paul Crowley and Janelle Dorothy Garcia; grandchildren, Ashley BreeAnn Dietz, Guy David Breen, Kristen Diane Stokes, Paul Warren Crowley and Megan Crowley; brothers, Lionel Paul Crowley and Jared Orson Crowley and Richard Kent Crowley. Other family members include Lydine Michelle Auld, Patrick Robert Neal, Jeremiah Ayala and Anthony Ayala. Larry attended Chaffey High School in Ontario, California, where he was recognized and rewarded for his expertise ability in playing varsity basketball. He was awarded a trophy for a single game scoring record of forty-one points in 1955. He attended college on a basketball scholarship, where he played varsity for Brigham Young University. He was also recruited by UCLA. He taught six years in the Ontario School District and finished his teaching career of thirty-two years at Rim of the World School District, before retiring in 1999. He taught accounting classes for Chaffey Junior College and San Bernardino Valley College. His students remember his teaching style with humor and patience, with a connection to their needs in English, AP History, Math, Science and Physical Education. Through the years, he coached boys’ basketball, football and track and girls’ volleyball and basketball. Larry served a church mission, with his brother, Lionel Paul Crowley. He also served as Second Counselor in the Bishopric for the Crestline Ward, California. Further, he was active in the supervision and learning experience of students in the Junior Statesmen of America and served as a board member for five years, in the promotion of student excellence in debating. A Celebration of Life was held for Larry on February 4, 2017, at the Hacienda del Sol Resort, with a buffet and program and a video review of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
