Hilde was born in Bremen, Germany on July 18, 1933, she had 2 older brothers. She immigrated to NY with her mother in 1955 after World War 2. Her mother did not stay in the US but Hilde did and became a US citizen.
Hilde worked for the Bahnsen family at their deli in NYC. She became part of the Bahnsen family and lived in their Flushing home.
Hilde found a German immigrant named George Haubach and got married on April 10, 1970.
They lived in New York together before moving to Port Richie, Florida.
In 1998 they moved to Mesa, Arizona. George passed away in 2002 and Hilde spent many hours volunteering at Banner Memorial Hospital in Chandler, AZ.
She loved her volunteer job and was proud to make coffee and greet visitors.
Hilde passed away in her bed in her room at Ativo Senior living home in Yuma, AZ.
She lived with Alzheimer’s and Dementia for many years. She was dependent on several caregivers for her ADLs and was confined to a wheelchair.
We are at peace knowing she is now in heaven with Jesus, her beloved George, family and friends.
She will be remembered as a stern woman that showed love by punching you in the arm! She always would stick her tongue out when someone was taking her picture. She loved sitting outside smoking her Pall Mall cigarettes, and staring at the moon at night. She would often say "send me to the moon, I am done with earth!"
