Dayle Wilson Wright

Dayle Wilson Wright, age 94, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on Friday, April 1, 2022. Due to his sarcastically playful wit, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband, Dayle Wilson Wright, left us on April Fool’s Day

Dayle was born on February 4, 1928, in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Virgil and Trella Wright. Because the family moved to Arizona while he was still an infant, the only thing he gained from his midwestern heritage was a penchant for saying “warsh” instead of “wash”.

The family lived for a short time in Seligman, AZ., but then moved to the copper town of Hayden, where Dayle grew up and learned to cuss in Spanish.

In addition to that skill, Dayle became an eagle scout, worked as a projectionist at the local theater, and was popular with not only his peers but the adults of the community.

After graduation from High School, Dayle joined the Navy. World War II was over, so the Navy took advantage of his skills as a theater projectionist. It was in the Navy that Dayle learned leatherwork, which became a hobby he enjoyed for much of his life (and he was very good at it).

Thanks to the GI bill, Dayle was able to graduate from Arizona State College with a degree in Business Administration.

As an impressionable young man, he was introduced to Fay Corey through his older brother Ronald. Dayle and Fay were married on August 3, 1951.

After graduation from ASC, Dayle took a job at Asarco and he and his wife moved back to Hayden to start a family. At Asarco, he served as an accountant, then Chief Accountant, then as a travelling auditor, which turned out to be an exciting position, as he was responsible for exposing several crooked company staff members. Dayle worked for Asarco for almost fifty years, despite death threats from those crooked company staff members.

Sadly, Dayle and Fay divorced in 1988, but both went on to happy lives afterwards.

Dayle married Lauretta Clark on November 9, 1990. He met Lauretta at the Asarco office in Amarillo, Tx. One of the perks of being a travelling auditor.

Dayle loved to fish and hunt (drink beer) with his friends. He was a superior marksman (the beer came after the tournaments) and pit barbeque specialist (beer was necessary). He loved to paint desert scenes. Many of his paintings hang in the homes of family and friends. He was also an avid gardener: he loved to grow eggplant, which none of his kids would eat.

We loved Dad and know he loved and was proud of his children and grandchildren.

Dayle was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Wright and Trella Maize, and by his three siblings, Wayne, Ronald, and Wanda.

He is survived by his wife Lauretta and children: Daylene Wright, Randall Wright (Dawn), Ward Wright (Mary Beth) and Cindi Frazier (Riley), and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
