Carol Ann Simms Atwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 21, 2017, at age 78 in Tucson. Carol was born on February 2, 1939 to Harold and Nina English in Saginaw, Michigan and she had one brother, Jerry English, all now deceased. She married James M. Simms (deceased) and is survived by three sons, Jeff Simms (Karen), Eric Simms (Van) and Joe Simms (Sharon); seven grandchildren, Justin Simms, Jacob Simms, Jesse Simms, Kyle Simms, Alyssa Simms, Steven Hengel (Amanda) and Cassandra Hengel Sellers (Hyrum); niece, Katie English Krupp (Nathaniel) and her kitty Beau, who brought great comfort. The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale East Tucson and Zach Griffith for the loving care she received over the past year and a half. Carol received her RN from Henry Ford Hospital in Michigan and attained a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Kentucky. Carol was a loving mother and at the same time had a varied nursing career, which included TMC, American Red Cross and Pima County Home Health Care in Tucson. She also worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor in Kentucky for several years. Carol was a member of Unity of Tucson for over thirty years and developed a deep spiritual life. Although gone physically, she lives on warmly in our hearts and her spirit now resides in heaven with God and all the holy ones. We will miss her dearly. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 10 a.m. to Noon at the Civano Community Activity Center, 10501 E. Seven Generations Way. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s name to Arizona Public Broadcasting or the Humane Society of Southern Arizona.
