Billy (Bill) Harland Moore, 78, passed on February 21, 2023, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Tucson, Arizona.
Bill was born in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska, on May 8, 1944, to Else Zeiler and Sgt. Harland Raymond Moore and was raised by his mother and stepfather, Eugene Walter Douglass. Bill graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1962.
Bill was passionate about continuing education. He attended college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1964 and the University of Wyoming in 1979, where he met the love of his life, Jayne Furness. He attended the Federal Law Enforcement Academy in 1983 and completed coursework at Eastern Washington University in 1991 and the LDS Institutes of Religion in Laramie, WY, and Reno, NV.
Bill married Jayne in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 16, 1981, where they were sealed for time and eternity. They had three children: Christopher Brandon, Brianne, and Ephraim Douglass.
Bill lived a life of service as he pursued his career in law enforcement. He worked as a private contractor for the U.S. Government from 1964 – 1968, where he spent part of his service in Viet Nam. He served as a Highway Patrol Officer in the Nebraska State Patrol from 1968 – 1978. He concluded his law career as an Investigator working for the USDA Forest Service in Laramie, WY, from 1979 – 1989.
Bill highly valued the importance of being an active member of his community. He served many callings within the LDS church from 1980 until his passing. His favorite calling was serving as a temple worker at the Reno LDS Temple from 2002 – 2005. Bill served in various positions within the Boy Scouts of America from 1979-2020, and he was a role model and mentor for hundreds of young men. Most noteworthy, he was a Scoutmaster from 1979 – 2002. He considered witnessing his youngest son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in 2004 and his third-oldest grandchild, who became an Eagle Scout in 2020, as his crowning achievements after a lifetime of dedication.
Bill loved to write and actively pursued that passion from 1960 until his death. His work was published in periodicals produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he self-published many short stories and novels. He explored topics of historical and religious import and loved to write about adventure and piracy. His favorite novel as a child was Treasure Island, one of his many sources of inspiration throughout his writing career.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest grandchild (Laithan Alan Moore).
He is survived by his wife, Jayne Furness Moore, and their children: Christopher Brandon of Tucson, Brianne Kjar of Sparks, and Ephraim Douglass of Flagstaff, their Spouses: Christopher Nicole, Jason Kjar, and Rhiannon Rhea, and eight grandchildren.
